Several biblical verses and teachings from the Church Fathers condemn homosexuality as a sin. In the Old Testament, Leviticus 18:22 states "ከሴትም ጋር እንደምትተኛ ከወንድ ጋር አትተኛ፤ ጸያፍ ነገር ነውና።" Similarly, Leviticus 20:13 declares "ማናቸውም ሰው ከሴት ጋር እንደሚተኛ ከወንድ ጋር ቢተኛ ሁለቱ ጸያፍ ነገር አድርገዋል ፈጽመው ይገደሉ፤ ደማቸው በላያቸው ነው።"
In the New Testament, Romans 1:26-27 describes homosexual behavior as a result of exchanging "natural relations for those that are contrary to nature" and being given over to a "debased mind."
Similarly, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 lists "men who practice homosexuality" among those who will not inherit the kingdom of God.
The Church Fathers, such as Saint John Chrysostom, a prominent theologian, and bishop in the early Church, wrote in his Homilies on Romans, "All of these affections [of homosexuality] ... were vile (ወራዳ), but chiefly the mad lust after males; for the soul is more the sufferer in sins, and more dishonored than the body in diseases."
Overall, Orthodoxy views homosexuality as a serious moral issue and unequivocally prohibits such conduct, as it is explicitly stated in both biblical texts and the teachings of the Church Fathers.
